A view of the chaos
A view of the chaos
The 16th Annual QFL Nation free agent Auction and rookie draft was conducted for the first time ever completely online Friday night. Only two owners were sitting in the same room together this year. The original QFL used ooVoo to video chat while using Fantrax’s new auction software to facilitate the numbers. Yada yada yada 5.5 hours later its 1:30am ET and the rookie draft is not finished because Scott is MIA.

But it wasn’t entirely Fantrax’s fault. There was drunkeness. Hans was using IE 6.0. And Rishi went soft all of a sudden exhibiting an unusual amount of leniency on some roster violations (wish I had some of that treatment last Auction!) that took forever to resolve. Each. Time.

Qs – Fantrax might read this post because I put @fantrax in the headline and they could see it on Twitter. Leave your comments for them below. Remember its in beta so chill. Except for the quirk of our transition and franchise player rules I would say it worked pretty well. What are they supposed to do otherwise when an owner doesnt nominate a player in time? What about more people with Commissioner level admin rights? I would like to see some easy read out that tells you what are each team’s positional area of need is still to that point in the Auction.

Early Auction review from Owner.

Got to like McDs team, Rishi’s, Duggans, Seths (although not as good as last yr). Josh look horrible (and hes really bad at auction strategy), def do not love SOQ given he was coming from a position of strength last yr, QBC is terrible. FaHQ is really bad beyond his top 3 guys.

  1. I have used several auction sites, so I have some experience. The look and feel felt conventional. Many other sites have the same functionality.

    A couple of issues:
    1. When you run out of salary cap space, it should skip you
    2. If you don’t nominate a player in time, it should rely on your queue or skip you (and come back to you next)
    3. Once you fill in a salary for a guy in your queue, you are taken to a second screen to confirm. Is there a way to skip the second screen?
    4. Fantrax has a robust database. Perhaps someone should actually cull the list a bit – I mean Terrell Owens?
    5. I think there was an issue with the customizability of the clock. In any event, the gist is that there should be separate clocks for nominating a player, the initial countdown, and then how much time is put back on when someone bids in the last X seconds. All this should be changeable by the league

  2. FYI, my favorite thing was when Hans logged on and says that “he can’t see anything” and there is a gigantic warning box telling him the Internet Explorer is using an older version. If the warning box was human, it would literally be yelling at him for using IE 6 instead of 9
