1. Scott’s team is uncharacteristically bad. As of now, he is playing either the 31st or 32nd ranked NFL QB as his starter. Given that QB’s can get negative points, he may get more points by intentionally starting a back up QB
2. By placing Foster and Brees on waivers, Scott set in motion a cascade of events that will affect free agency for weeks to come. This week we anxiously awaited the acquisitions of Brees and Foster. Next week the waiver wire will again be hot (will we see Ridley or Rashad Jennings, to go along with Randle?. The following week who knows. Remember that all of this action is happening with the waiver wire set to ‘random.”
2a. Ted “re” acquired Brees at $28. You may recall Brees was stolen from him at the auction for the same price.
3. Ted has an interesting roster now that he has added Brees. He has a good starting line up, and tons of cheap money developmental receivers. This may be great now, but what happens after week four when roster limits come into effect. Perhaps the Brees signing will hamstring his maneuverability.
4. Although it seemed like Hans had a permanent “don’t do business with Josh” sign hanging in his window, he finally succumbed to Josh’s trade offers by trading away Gordon. We all know that Hans’ IR move – placing Gordon on the IR before the season started and before Gordon was formally punished – made no sense, particularly because there are no roster limits in place. So, it was inevitable that he would trade Gordon to get something for him. Although it’s unclear how this deal was consummated, this author believes that Hans’ recent joining of facebook led to Josh’s ability to pierce Hans’ shell. Josh loves FB messenger.
5. So far free agency has gone extremely well, at least compared to last year, when Seth was impossible to deal with
6. Speaking of Free agency, last week Nordstrom bid and won the “wrong” Grimes. This week, he bid on Foster (and claimed he won the “sweepstakes”). He was gently reminded that he has to make cuts get compliant before he could trade. How many us believe that Josh didn’t know this rule existed until he was “reminded.”
7. What does McD when the Redskins have their bye. Who is the lucky opponent? Seth (because of course it is)
8. With this year’s realignment the historic Ted/Seth rivalry officially dies.
9. Has anyone noticed QBC’s newest management style. Ian has become the de facto GM, actually studying up before the auction and showing up early and often before big events. Jim, on the other hand, is Ian’s bulldog, barking out every time some says anything negative about the team (usually with a bald joke or two). I give it 3 years until quinlan is cut out all together.
10. Finally.I’d like your thoughts. Who’s roster do you like the best? Who are your top three breakouts and top three busts?
(update)
We now know the free agents for week 2. The cascade should continue. but is it even worth it. Ridley looks like he is on the bubble http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6487/stevan-ridley) and Spiller has been less than stellar (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5566/cj-spiller). Randle is overpriced, Gordon is facing a 1 year ban, and Andre Holmes is nothing more than the 4th WR on one of the worst teams in football.
