The NFL rookie draft starts today, so its about time we start making predictions about the stupid picks some teams are going to make at the 12th Annual QFL Rookie Draft. Here is QSN’s mock draft of the first round. FRNQ has the #1 overall pick. QBC and TenQ own two first round picks. Quince and FahQ own no picks in 2011.

2011 QFL Mock Rookie Draft

#1 AJ Green (WR) – FRNQ – McD has a dilemma with the #1 pick. He needs a WR badly (has only VJax, Harvin, Ward), but the last WR taken #1 overall was Charles Rogers by Scott in 2003 and look how that panned out. McD could be a trade down candidate unless he chooses not to give Mendenhall a $5 raise in which case he would likely target Ingram.

#2 Mark Ingram (RB)  – QBC (from Quince United)
– Not even dual-headed QBC can screw up this pick. Having said that, you can’t totally count out them taking a QB here with only Sanchez ($2, S2) a keeper worthy candidate. The team needs help at every position which is why it was so surprising to see them in the championship last year.

#3 Ryan Williams (RB) – QTang – Benny will undoubtedly target an RB with the #3 pick after taking Jahvid Best #2 overall last year. His RB1 is Forte ($8 O).

#4 Mikel Leshoure (RB) – SwineQ – Paul needs an RB so badly (with only Benson ($2 L3), Addai ($11 L2) and Mike Hart for $3 as options), he may be extremely motivated to trade up, perhaps with McD to grab a cornerstone RB.

#5 Julio Jones (WR) – OrigQ – Not a lot of glaring needs but maybe WR help would be most useful. Rishi’s standard offensive set last year was basically 4-wide if you count Gates as a WR.

#6 DeMarco Murray (RB) – QUnet – Barron has no one to backup Turner ($27, L8). Wallace ($1 L2) and Crabtree ($2 S2) form a seemingly solid WR core.

#7 Blaine Gabbbert (QB) – QBC
– QBCs second pick in the first round will be the best player regardless of position.

#8 Jake Locker (QB) – BQP – Duggan is stacked at every position but QB. The team doesn’t have the cap space to hold onto Matt Ryan ($4 O) so Locker or even Cam Newton are likely picks here.

#9 Jonathan Baldwin (WR) – SOQ (from Quince) – Scott needs QB help, but would probably opt to address needs at WR with this pick and resign himself to overpaying to protect Brady ($19 L3) at the Auction. With Marshall ($7 L2), Mike Williams SEA ($4 L1) and Earl Bennett ($4 L1) for starting WR options thats probably a good move.

#10 Kendall Hunter (RB) – QU (from FahQ) – Hans will look to add a fourth RB on a rookie contract along with Rice ($4 O), Ryan Matthews ($4 S1) and Beanie Wells ($8 S2) after trading what would have been the #2 overall pick this year to QBC.

#11 Cam Newton (QB) – TenQ – The defending Champion owns two first round picks. This is the highest. With a daughter named Cameron, how could Seth pass up taking another. It would make sense too with only Eli ($3 L1) and Carson ($9 L2) for starting options otherwise.

#12 Torrey Smith (WR) TenQ (from SOQ) – Boldin ($20 L4) was a huge disappointment in 2010. The team’s #3 overall pick in 2010, Dez Bryant, looks like a train wreck waiting to happen. Brandon Tate, Knox and James Jones are projects at best.

If there is no 2011 season it’s unclear if we’d still hold a rookie draft, but we’ll save that thought for another post.
