Proposal #1 (the ban on Thursday/Saturday player trades) already passed a QFL general vote, but debate rages on in some circles. The new rule may force a change to another rule. From Shane.
The main point of this rule change was that we were talking about all of the teams that didn’t have anybody playing in the Thursday game – it was illogical that those teams were locked in and not be able to trade because there happened to be a Thursday night game that didn’t involve any of their players. Because of the Thursday game lockdown, trades were limited to Monday through Thursday.ÂPlus sometimes we’re talking about a Thursday night game that involves a fantasy wasteland like the Cleveland Browns when most people in the QFL don’t own any Browns players. Its unfair to limit trades involving all players on all teams just because a garbage team like the Browns and one other team might have played.ÂThis season, the NFL has added more Thursday night games. They are Week 1 & Weeks 10 through 16. Five of these TNF games affect the QFL regular season so it was silly to have five weeks where you could only trade for three full days under the old rule. Especially since weeks 10 through 13 are the end of our regular season where teams are fighting to make the playoffs.ÂI think the rule change is very clear that you cannot trade a player who has already played in a Thursday or Saturday game.
Pope Paul illustrates the problem with an example.
Seth and I are playing each other this week. Five minutes before TNF, Seth trades Chris Johnson to Scott. If Seth’s roster is not compliant, under note (a) of the 24 hour rule, he either must make his roster compliant before kickoff (if he starts someone) or he can take the full 24 hours (if he doesn’t).Let’s assume Seth doesn’t start anyone during TNF, but I start Andre Johnson. Under the old trade rule, weekly trading would have ended at the TNF kickoff, but now, I can still trade anyone else on my roster (besides Andre Johnson) before Sunday morning. As such, if I trade Tom Brady to Shane on Saturday, I should have either 24 hours to make my roster compliant or it should be compliant before the 1 a.m. kickoff (whichever is earlier).
Scott continues.
It has nothing to do with players that played in a Thursday game. Â His point is that now you can execute a trade that will bring you roster out of compliance after games have already started. Â The team then should not have 24 hours to correct his roster. Â It needs to be done before the start of the next game in which someone on his starting roster participates or Sunday at 1:00 pm, whichever comes 1st.
Any further rule changes at this point can only be implemented this season with a unanymous vote. Expect some drama.
