That didn’t take long. I thought so earlier, but I am now certain of the top four fantasy football rookies after only the first day of the NFL Draft. Just now we know where they’re going to play.

  1. Ryan Mathews RB Chargers – This is the perfect pick for #1 overall. Mathews lands in a great situation in terms of O-line, QB, WR, TE and no competition for every down carries. I was sure of this pick back on Feb 1, but after the Chargers traded up 16 picks to prove me right, everybody will agree with me.
  2. Jahvid Best RB Lions – Like Mathews, Best has a clear path to the starting job, but the Lions don’t have the Chargers’ O-line or defense to keep them in games. Best could end up the better back in the long run, but right now which team would you rather be betting on Chargers or Lions?
  3. CJ Spiller RB Buffalo – Spiller still has to hope Lynch gets traded and Fred Jackson goes away somehow. Be realistic, this is a committee in Buffalo. Two of the worst words in fantasy football.
  4. Dez Bryant WR Cowboys – You have to feel bad for Miles Austin, when Jerry Jones trades up to get someone, that person plays.

The rest are still in queue so to speak:

Jermaine Gresham TE Bengals
Sam Bradford QB Rams
Tim Tebow QB Broncos
Demaryius Thomas WR Broncos
We’ll know a lot more this weekend.
