The QFL Constitution is opened up for amendments every off-season and this year is no different. Increasing offensive player scoring relative to defense is a top priority for the QFL’s Competition Committee (COMCOMM) as well as passage of a “change of possession” rule that will clarify how to score controversial, but very rare, plays like this one involving two fumbles. While watching this video ask yourself, what phase of the game was Wes Welker playing if he had scored a touchdown, offense, defense or special teams?
But these two amendments are only the most well known and pressing matters being considered by COMCOMM. Also being discussed:
- Giving QFL Colony Leagues a seat on COMCOMM. A proposal to allow parallel league members an observer status on COMCOMM initially with the ability to accrue a seat with voting rights for leagues that meet certain criteria is being discussed. Further details are being withheld due to the sensitive nature of negotiations.
- Steal a player program. Similar to an NFL team’s ability to snatch a player off another team’s practice squad, the QFLs rulemaking body might agree to formulate a way to allow something similar in the QFL. The draft rule leaked to QSN includes the right to match the “offer” of any raiding team to the losing team, but if matched the player would have to be activated (traded to active roster). The “offer” could be as much as 4 times the player’s salary, which, for a practice squad player by QFL rules, could be up to 8% of a team’s salary cap, but not less than 4%.
