The results of my quick subjective survey of first round rookie selections dating from 2011 to 2003 is complete and the results may surprise you. Jim & Ian are only among the worst rookie draft performers. Benny is overrated. Hans’ selection of Jamaal Charles with the #12 pick in 2008 ranks among the best ever.

The Best (and some of the worst) First Round Rookie Selections By QFL Franchises (2011 to 2003)

HEPATITIS Q – One of the most surprising observations from this exercise is how bad Paul is at picking rookies. Although to be fair he didn’t make any first round selections in 2006 or 2003. But when he does he is arguably worse than Jim & Ian. The best selection I can come up with is Donald Brown #4 overall in 2009. There are many examples of bad picks but the best is Carnell Williams #1 overall in 2005.

FAHQ – Its been a while since FahQ made a great pick. Have to go all the way back to 2003 when FahQ took Anquan Boldin #12 overall. The hilarious worst pick you would expect from FahQ has to be Glenn Coffee #7 overall in 2009. Coffee retired before the 2010 season.

ORIGINAL QUINCELER – Rishi’s best ever selection is easily Ray Rice #9 in 2008.

DETROIT ROQ CITY – DRC’s best selections date back before current ownership can take credit for them. CJ Spiller #4 in 2010 and Michael Crabtree #8 in 2009.

STORMTROOPERS OF QUINCE – Scott seems to always have tons of rookie selections. The standout best pick for me was Cam Newton #9 overall in 2011. Also Stephen Jackson #3 in 2004. The worst is a toss up between; Charles Rogers #1 overall in 2003; Tatum Bell #2 overall in 2004; and JaMarcus Russell #7 in 2007.

QTANG CLAN – Julio Jones #3 overall in 2011 was a great pick. Jahvid Best #2 overall in 2010 not so much.

FREDNEQ – Frank Gore #8 overall in 2005 was great. Mark Ingram #1 in 2011 was not.

QUINCE UNITED – I’d say Jamaal Charles #12 overall in 2008 was a better pick than Larry Johnson #11 overall in 2003, but it’s close. Chris Wells #9 overall in 2009 was a low point for the Franchise.

TENACIOUS Q – The TenQ franchise boasts so many great first round picks its impossible to settle on the best one: AJ Green #4, DeMarco Murray #11 (2011), Dez Bryant #3 (2010), McCoy #3 (2009), Chris Johnson #7 (2008), Vernon Davis #11 (2006). The franchise’s worst pick on the other hand is very easily Darren McFadden #1 overall in 2008.

QUINTORRIS JONES – Demaryious Thomas the #7 overall pick in 2010 stands out as the best. No real misses.

A TRIBE CALLED QUINCE – Have to go back to 2004 when Ted hit it out of the park with Larry Fitzgerald #5 and Ben Rothlisberger #11 overall. No real misses.

QUINCING BY COMMITTEE – Never made a good first round selection. JJ Arrington #3 overall in 2005 stands out as their worst pick.
